The Bicycle Facility Program

The Bicycle Facility Program (BFP) is a grant program that provides funding to reduce motor vehicle emissions through the implementation of new bicycle facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Funding for the BFP is provided by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's (Air District’s) Transportation Fund for Clean Air. The BFP supports the implementation of bicycle projects through a streamlined process in which qualified projects are eligible to receive funding, up to a maximum grant amount based on the proposed project type. Grant awards are made primarily on a first-come first-served basis, utilizing a simplified grant application and evaluation procedure.

Available Funds

The Bicycle Facility Program is closed for FY 2008/2009; all available funds have been allocated. See file under BFP Materials (below) for a list of projects awarded BFP funds

Who Can Apply?
Public agencies with the authority and capability to complete bicycle related projects within the Air District’s jurisdiction are eligible to apply for BFP funds. The Air District encompasses all of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara Counties, and the southern parts of Solano and Sonoma Counties.
